August 2007
East Coast Vacation
It's amazing how quickly a month can get away from you when you go on vacation. First you have to get as much done as possible before you leave. Then it takes a while to catch up on work once you get back. That is why there have been a dearth of posts to this space lately.
Since I'm still playing catch-up, this might be the only post for the month of August, so I'm going to make the most of it by posting thoughts and highlights of my just completed trip to Maine.
Flying Non-Stop
We flew non-stop from Oakland to Boston on Jet Blue. Put simply, Jet Blue rocks. The leg room, the TV's, the lack of a first class cabin all combine to make for a comfortable and easy flight. Going non-stop was definitely less stressful even with a baby in tow. Staying on one plane for an entire trip is the only way to go.
Dunkin' Donuts Coffee
We spent our first night in Massachusetts and drove up the coast the next day to Maine. Our first stop that morning was to get some coffee and donuts at the famous East Coast chain. I have heard many East Coasters rave about how great the coffee at Dunkin' Donuts is. I have to say I was not that impressed. The coffee struck me as kind of bland and about as flavorful as Foldgers drip coffee. Even the coffee at McDonalds tastes better than Dunkin' Donuts' coffee.
Bad Drivers
The Bay Area definitely does not have a monopoly on bad drivers. Maine drivers don't signal. They brake for a turn about a mile before the turn. They use engine braking at high speeds which caused us to nearly rear-end one such idiot. Don't even get me started on how Maine pedestrians just step off the curb to cross the street in the middle of the block without looking.
Light Houses
I don't know what it is about light houses that make them so captivating, but I loved photographing them. They look great rain or shine.
Karl Rove Quits
You go away for two weeks and all hell breaks loose. Well not quite. The Simpering Simian doesn't really need Rove's services anymore since he can't run for another term. Rove claims he quit for the sake of his family. I'm calling bullshit to that. People like Rove don't spend time with their families. They just don't. What he's really doing is gearing up to destroy the Democratic Presidential candidate in 2008. And that means he can't use government facilities to do his work anymore.
