Going Bankrupt to Stop Taxes
I am always astounded at how much people in California complain about the poor quality of our schools, bad roads, lack of service from state agencies, state park closures, etc. Yet, ask those same people if they were willing to contribute an additional ONE percent of their income to help improve those things, they practically scream "NO!!!". The result of freezing revenue is more cuts to services.
The state faces immense budget deficits. Rather than trying to increase revenue by raising taxes, Ahnold is calling for cuts, cuts and more cuts. The end result being that our schools suffer. Our roads suffer. Our parks suffer. State services in general, suffer.
Why are people more willing to spend thousands of dollars a year for private education than a couple hundred a year for better public schools? When are people going to realize that if they just loosened the purse-strings a little, they wouldn't have to form parent groups to supplement their schools' funds for art, music and other programs that fell to the budget axe?
Schools have a cost. Services have a cost. If you're not willing to pay that cost then you can't complain about the conditions your selfishness has helped create.
