Café de la Paz Redesign
Café de la Paz wanted a new design to replace a site that featured long scrolling pages, a clunky navigation bar, and illegible text due to inadquate contrast between the text and the background. The site I designed and built is now maintained by a third party who has made changes to my original design, but the basic design is still the same.

The Design
This site features a three column layout with a flexible center column that can widen or contract depending on the width of the browser window. The restaurant branding is established throught out the site in a header that features the logo and the tagline. The navigation on the left is placed consistently throughout the site, while the right column features special event plugs and other items of interest. The home page serves as a general announcement page that highlights entertainment and other resteraunt related news. The earthtone color palette provides a soothing but warm appearance that compliments the food photos very well.
The Code
I tossed out the tag-soup laden pages of the old site and replaced them with fast-loading standards-compliant XHTML 1.0 Strict for structure and CSS version 2 for layout and presentation. The rollover effect of the navigation is handled by unobtrusive dom-based JavaScript.
