Proposed Berkely Site Office
This site was designed in anticipation of the reorganization that the Department of Energy underwent in 2004. The site was to serve as the online presence for the Berkeley Site Office (BSO) after the Service Center in Oakland closed. The site was placed on indefinite hold.

The Design
The site's simple design stems from the minimum amount of content available. The navigation was provided by the "Quick Hits" box and breadcrumbs. The home page featured a gelatin layout constrained to fit into an 800 X 600 resolution screen. Underlying pages utilized a more flexible liquid layout. The color palette was drawn from the logo of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. I also used the opacity and alpha filter properties on the home page to create a layered effect.
The Code
The site specification called for standards-compliant XHTML 1.0 Strict for structure, CSS version 2 for layout and presentation, and JavaScript for behavior (popups, rollovers, etc.). The site also had to be in compliance with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
