This site was designed to coincide with the 2003 Open Studios event in San Francisco. The site features brief glimpses at the participating artists and their works. I designed this site as part of my contribution to the group.

The Design

The site features a minimalist design that emphasizes the artists and their work. Graphical elements are limited to the logo and the thumbnail images of art. The forest green of the navigation bar and box headers breaks up the monotony of the white on black color palette without detracting from the art. The simple lines of the logo are echoed throughout the rest of the page by the white lines that extend across the top and wrap around the content area.

The Code

The site was developed using transitional XHTML for structure and CSS Level 2 for layout and presentation. A JavaScript include is used to render the left-side navigation. The rollover effect of the left-side navigation is accomplished by applying CSS to the hover pseudo-class.
